Some of Our Favourite Black Owned Hair Care Companies

For those that do not know CDB London is a black owned business and with everything that is currently going on in the world, we believe that posting a small black box on social media is not enough. So we want to promote and show you guys how to support black businesses.

Did you know that the black hair beauty industry is worth an estimated $2.5 billion in the US and £88 million in the UK, this is excluding wigs and accessories! Somehow, very little black people are profiting from this due to most of the companies not being black owned or those that are, aren’t being sold in large retailers. In the UK and especially in London there are countless numbers of beauty stores tailored to black people, but less than ten are owned by a black woman. This is not right.

So, we want to show support to all the beauty companies owned by black people. Here are some of our favourites to keep your hair healthy in between and underneath your wigs.

The Curly Connect: Oil-in-one

This is one of our personal favourites. The Curly Connect is an online brand made by black women for black hair and skin. They have an awesome product called the Oil-in-One daily replenishing oil that promotes hair growth and health. Perfect for the maintenance of your hair and scalp underneath your wig.

Nguvu Shea Care

Nguvu is an all-natural Ghanaian owned company that sells organic, natural oils and butters for both your hair and skincare. Buying from here is not only good for the body but for the soul too! This company is also a social enterprise that supports women in Ghana, who work in production and harvesting. Now that’s a case worth getting behind.

Sunny Isle

For most people, Jamaican Black Castor Oil has become the LBD of their hair cabinets and Sunny Isle tends to be our company of choice. What most people don’t know is that Sunny Isle is black owned, what’s great is that they can actually be found in many hair stores and even Superdrugs! They have such a wide range of products to use both underneath your wig and in-between too!

They even have a quiz to help define your hair needs so you can best pick from their range of products - and what a range they have. They’ve got sets, travel size products and accessories. All of this owned by two black women. Oh, and did we mention that they were award-winning.
